Help us build 12 living units for low-income seniors, providing a safe, supportive community where they can live with dignity and care.
Brockville, Dunedin
The Little Sisters of the Poor have been committed to serving the elderly poor with love, dignity, and respect since 1839 when Saint Jeanne Jugan founded the organisation. Continuing this mission in Dunedin since 1904, the Little Sisters have provided a sanctuary for the elderly, adapting to the changing needs of their residents. Their ongoing work is deeply rooted in hospitality, compassion, community, and respect for life.
Currently, the Little Sisters are embarking on a significant new project: the construction of 12 independent living units designed for low-income seniors. These units offer a secure, comfortable, and modern living environment where seniors can maintain independence while being part of a supportive community. Each unit will have essential amenities, including a kitchenette, living areas, private bedrooms, accessible bathrooms, and outdoor spaces with garden or harbour views. The residents will also have access to communal spaces, social activities, and services provided by the existing Residential Home.
The need for these independent living units has been driven by the increasing number of seniors who can live independently but require affordable housing with access to a supportive community. With the Dunedin home operating near total capacity, the Little Sisters identified this gap and are expanding their offerings, ensuring that more elderly individuals can live independently in a safe and nurturing environment.
The funds will construct and furnish 12 independent living units for low-income seniors, including kitchens, bathrooms, and communal areas. If we don't meet our target, the money will go towards essential materials and initial construction phases.
