Support Port Chalmers Swim Club's Swimathon 2023 - raising funds for new equipment

$2,032 of $800 goal
Given by 29 generous donors in 25 days

Support our swimmers as they swim as many laps as they can to help raise funds for our local swimming club.

Port Chalmers, Otago

Our annual Swimathon fundraiser is coming up on Sunday 19 November (2pm to 4pm) and we need all of you to help us make it a wonderful event.

It’s important to us to offer a fundraiser that involves swimming – and this one definitely delivers.

*** You are welcome to put the name/s of the swimmers you are supporting in your comment***

Our young swimmers will be given 30 minutes to swim as many widths as they can (our beginner swimmers will be helped and will use kick boards); then our older swimmers will be given an hour to swim as many lengths as they can. Each swimmer will ask friends and whanau to sponsor them per length or width up to a maximum (or offer a donation). This event encourages swimming, allows swimmers to push themselves, and is a lot of fun!

Teaching kids to swim is vitally important – last year New Zealand experienced its highest annual drowning fatalities in a decade – and our club is doing its bit to make sure our local kids can swim.

Our membership has grown by 33% this year so the funds we raise from the Swimathon will go towards new equipment to support our lessons and coaching.

Thanks so much for your support!

Use of funds

All the funds raised will be used to purchase new equipment for the club and to assist with the running costs for the season.

The Swimathon was a blast!  21 November 2023

Thanks so much to all the swimmers, children and adult, who turned up to challenge themselves in the water.

After 10 minutes for the width swimmers, some of us were thinking, "It's too long!" but everytime we announced how many minutes were left, the children got a new burst of energy and just kept swimming!!! AMAZING! Most children smashed their personal lap goal right out of the park! Tino pai width swimmers!

And as for our length swimmers. You guys were so good! You paced yourselves, took breaks for breathers if you needed it and swam right up the very last second. An hour of lap swimming is pretty impressive! You guys should be super proud of yourselves!

Thanks so much to all the parents & grandparents who came along to be the tally counters and support crew. We couldn't have done it without you! I bet you too were surprised by the number of laps swum huh? Just amazing!

And what about those yummy smoothies afterwards during the Recovery Nutrition Workshop? Yum! Thanks Jeffery for teaching us some new skills and recipes we can use.

Ka pai everyone!
