This give-a-little page has been set up to raise funds towards finding a new safe living environment for Rita Paczian and John Green.
Riwaka, Tasman
Rita Paczian and John Green's entire property was in the direct path of destructive Nelson Tasman flooding over the weekend after alert level red was declared on Friday. Their Riwaka home has been red-stickered and is beyond repair. The slash-filled floodwaters rose rapidly and engulfed their home in mud and debris 1-metre high, destroying the inside and outside of their home and property. This give-a-little page has been set up to raise funds to support the replacement of lost possessions and to find a new safe home for John, Rita and their four animals.

Rita and John have insurance but will have to wait a long time for the claim to be processed. Any financial support in the interim will be greatly appreciated.
I have worked for Rita Paczian for the last 4 years and know that many will want to support her. This event is devastating on her family and I hope this page raises enough funds to cover as much of the loss as possible and helps them find a new safe home.
The money will be spent on replacement of lost possessions and towards setting up a new safe living environment.
Update for donors from Rita Paczian and John Green 17 December 2025
Dear Donors,
It is time to send you an update after the landslides on 11 July.
Thank you so much for your donation! Without your support and generosity, we could not have moved forward.
After endless reports and assessments from Morgan Services (employed by AA, our insurance), NHC (Natural Hazard Commission), Tonkin & Taylor (Geo-technical engineers), we received a payout of 400k (40% of what house was insured for) to cover the total renovation of the house (295k) and the destroyed property (110k).
The crew started their work in late September and have made great progress so far. We have been working many hours every day, digging silt from under the house and the garden, painting the house, rebuilding fences, planting new trees and shrubs etc. to minimise costs. We are still renting the old villa at TOAD Hall, Motueka.
We plan to complete renovations and landscaping by end of January then put the house on the market. Once the property sells, we will try and buy a new property. We love the area and intend to stay in the Tasman region. For now, our old postal address has been reinstated: 92 Dehra Doon Rd, RD 3 Motueka 7198.
A heartfelt thank you, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Love, Rita & John
