Help support our family as we navigate a severe prenatal heart defect diagnosis for one of our twin girls
Manawatu / Whanganui
For our family the exciting news of expecting identical twin girls was soon turned to concern as we faced multiple health issues throughout the pregnancy, ultimately leading to one of the twins (Sadie) being diagnosed with a severe heart defect called Hypoplastic Right Heart. This essentially means that Sadie faces the need for immediate intervention after birth and potentially faces upward of 3 open heart surgeries before the age of 5. We have been told my the specialists that I will need to relocate to Auckland to birth the babies and potentially will stay there for up to six months while Sadie gets the help she needs. Financially this is a very trying time for our family as we navigate being split up across the country, travelling back and forth, living in the hospital and caring for newborn twins, one who will need extra care. While there are amazing supports through patient travel and Heart Kids my toddler's travel will not be covered and my husband will need to take a large amount of unpaid time off work. We greatly appreciate anyone who is able to put forward a small koha to help us as we navigate this journey as we attempt to give our Sadie a chance at life.
EDIT: unfortunately Sadie lost her heart battle. Thank you to everyone who gave to us. The money has been used to pay for her funeral and to fund Josh having a few weeks off work to grieve and care for his family.
The money will be used to allow my husband to take time off work to support me in Auckland and will pay for my 2.5 year old to fly up for visits.
