Raising funds for support at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships
Te Anau, Southland
Three Fiordlanders have been selected for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Austria in June. This is a self funded event.
Dwight Grieve follows his World Mountain Running experience of 2018 being selected for the New Zealand Senior mens team to run the short trail course this year. Dwight, a former Police Officer and now Fish and Game Officer will be racing over 44kms.
Sagar Khemani will compete for the Indian senior mens team in the Classic Up and Down Mountain Running Championships over 15.5kms. He has lived in Fiordland permanently for 3 years and has worked in the area in the past. Sagar works in social services and is currently the Whanau Ora Navigator for Fiordland.
Both of the above athletes were selected off their performances at the NZ Trail and Mountain Running Championships - as well as other performances. Dwight was third in the senior race in Dunedin recently.
Shaun Cantwell has been selected as the New Zealand Coach which follows on from previous selections as NZ Team Coach for Athletics Championships, World Road Relays, NZ Orienteering teams and more. Shaun coaches both Dwight and Sagar.
Estimated costs per person for participation including flights and accommodation is $7000.
