Help support Sami, a much-loved Turf legend, as she bravely battles cancer and cares for her beautiful whānau.
Stoke, Nelson
Sami’s always been the bright light behind the bar at The Turf — bubbly, full of life, and loved by everyone who met her. As a duty manager, she ran the place like a champ, especially on weekends and those classic Monday-Tuesday nights.
Recently, Sami’s world was rocked by a devastating cancer diagnosis — it’s spread to her lungs, liver, bones, and brain. But true to form, she’s still smiling, still positive, and still focused on winning the battle.
Sadly, that battle has meant stepping away from work, cutting the household income in half, and putting extra pressure on her whānau: partner Adam, Marshall (5), Lucy (10), and two teenage step-sons.
We’re asking for your help — to support Sami with living costs, help her create special memories with her kids, and maybe keep little Lucy singing through it all.
Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference to a family that's given so much to our community. Let’s wrap around her now the way she’s always done for others 💛
Sami was a much-loved member of my team at The Turf, and a close part of our work whānau.
Funds will help cover living costs while Sami undergoes treatment, create special memories with her kids, and support Lucy’s singing lessons.
Mutant Powers Activated - Target Locked on Cancer 12 August 2025
Sami got the greatest news the other day - she has the mutant gene! Next step… learning karate and eating pizza like a true ninja turtle. But in all seriousness, this is massive. It means she can get targeted therapy, which has already started. Even better, it’s just one pill a week. Science is awesome, and we owe a huge thank you to all the brilliant scientists making this possible.
Sami is as upbeat and determined as ever, ready to smash this cancer and get on with living a full and long life.
To everyone who has donated so far, thank you. Your generosity restores faith in humanity and shows what community and family really mean. Every bit of support helps Sami focus on the fight ahead, and she is beyond grateful to have you all in her corner.
