Shunem Children's Home is run by my dear friends Ken and Lillian Wainaina. I met Ken 32 years ago on a trip to Kenya. He and his wife have run an orphanage for girls for over 30 years and have looked after more than 60 girls over this time. Ken and Lillian have always been fully committed to ensuring all their girls are educated and have sent them to school up to the age of 18.
They had a 5 bedroom home in Nairobi where the girls lived. However, recently the owner of the house evicted them, after almost 20 years. Ken and Lillian are currently renting a dour patch of land about an hour and a half out of Nairobi and have built a tin shack on this land.
I recently (July 2025) visited Ken and Lillian and met a number of the girls. They are living in a tin shack with a dirt floor, a gas cooker and a hole in the ground for their bathroom.
I would love to help them raise enough funds to buy some land and build a secure home for the girls, is this something you can help with? Anything you can spare will be extremely appreciated and will make a huge difference to these selfless and wonderful people doing their best to ensure a brighter future for their girls.

Ken and I have been friends for over 32 years. We met whilst I was traveling in Africa and have been writing to each other ever since. We met again in July this year (2025) and I met his dear wife Lillian. Both are very special friends.
Use of funds
Any donations will go toward building a home for the orphan girls on a property outside of Nairobi, Kenya and ensuring they can continue their education.

Ken & Lilian have found some land in Tawa, Makueni County, just out of Nairobi. They are so close to their dream and just need a wee bit more help.... thanking you for your generosity!!
