Fundraiser update: thank you & what’s next
17 January 2026Hi everyone,
🙏 Thank you for your incredible support so far
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, and supported the Support Sri Lanka Cyclone Relief fundraiser. Your generosity and encouragement mean a great deal to us, and to communities across Sri Lanka affected by the recent floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
To give some context to the scale of the disaster: the total damage from the floods is estimated at US$ 4.1 billion, around 4% of Sri Lanka’s GDP, affecting all 25 districts across the country. The impact has been devastating to homes, infrastructure, agriculture, and livelihoods, with recovery needs expected to be significantly higher than the initial damage estimates. You can read more about the assessment here:
In response, we are partnering with Second Coffee International, a community-focused organisation, to ensure the funds raised are used in a meaningful and sustainable way. Our focus is on long-term recovery rather than short-term relief, including:
* Rebuilding homes destroyed by the cyclone
* Restoring essential community infrastructure, such as schools and similar facilities
Planning is currently underway with partners on the ground to identify the most suitable projects, and we’ll continue to share progress updates as work begins.
This is a community-led humanitarian effort. Every contribution — whether through donating or sharing the page — helps bring hope and practical support to families affected by extreme and unexpected weather conditions.
If you’re able to, please continue to share this page within your networks so we can extend the reach and maximise the impact together.
Thank you once again for standing with Sri Lanka during this difficult time. 💛🙏
