Team Maverick’s Givealittle page is a call for support to help fund their journey to the VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas in May.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Rhys and Alex are members of Ao Tawhiti Unlimited Discovery's VEX Robotics Team - Maverick. Both have spent the past year building, designing and programming their robot for the 2024/2025 season. They have competed in local scrimmages and dedicated many hours outside of school to perfect their skills and robot. They competed at the VEX Robotics Nationals which were held in Auckland during February and made it all the way to the finals. In the finals they placed second overall out of 70+ teams who competed over the weekend. This extraordinary achievement has earned them an invite to compete at the VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas, Texas USA on 6-8 May 2025.
However, they need your help. The boys are determined to compete, and their families are doing everything they can to support them, but it will cost about $20,000 all up to get two students and one adult to the US for the VEX World Champs. By supporting Rhys and Alex you will help to cover their travel, accommodation and competition costs. And every dollar you contribute will be a great help in making the boys' dream come true.
Team Maverick are a small group of young engineers who thrive on problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation. Robotics has given them chance to develop critical STEM skills and compete at the highest level. Now, they want to showcase their hard work on the world stage.
I am Alex's mum. Alex is one of the team members. Funds will be paid to Rhys' mum Justine.
The donations they receive will be used to fund travel expenses, competition entry fee, and accommodation. Even if they don't reach their target, they will add their own funds to the donations received and participate in the competition.
