"I’m on a mission to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer… If I can save one life, it will be worth it" - Nyree Smith
Nyree was first diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in 2017 and thanks to a thorough doctor it was an early diagnosis. Nyree received 2 major surgeries and chemotherapy and was classified NED (no evidence of disease) until the cancer returned in 2019. Since then, Nyree has had 108 chemotherapy sessions, radiotherapy and MANY more surgeries. A fight that typically only has a prognosis of 9-12 months, our Nyree bravely fought for 8 years.
Nyree brought positivity, a wicked sense of humour, and strength that carried her and her family through this journey. Nyree organised 3 successful fundraisers, the PanCan Gala, a Long Lunch and a fabulous Garden Tour. It was never about Nyree and her illness, always about what Nyree could do for others.
However, in the midst of all of this, the expenses to keep her fight alive were stacking up. The last 2 sessions of chemo alone cost $200,000. Nyree and her family gave everything over the past 8 years fighting Pancreatic cancer, raising money and awareness for the disease, ultimately not enough was left when the inevitable came. That day came on Sunday 8th June 2025 when Nyree passed peacefully in her sleep.
Her legacy lives on in her strong campaign of raising awareness of pancreatic cancer and her light continues to shine bright in the lives of her family, friends and community.
Nyree's Angels have come together to help support Nyree's family to cover funeral costs and additional expenses related to her farewell.
The Angels are close friends who have supported, laughed and loved Nyree and her family through these 8 years.
Funds will go towards Nyree's funeral. The remaining funds will be distributed to Nyree's family to support them in the months that follow her farewell, Mercy Hospice for the beautiful care they provided, and the Pancreatic Cancer Support Association.
