A friend in need is a friend indeed: Please help our friend Gilbert’s mum to battle cancer.

Gilbert is an active volunteer in a local church who reaches out to young people and communities across Auckland. He has also participated in various mission trips abroad to help the less fortunate. Gilbert is a fun, loving, caring and selfless friend, workmate and brother. Gilbert’s family of six siblings are very humble, loving and caring. Gilbert’s mum Jane and his dad Roland are also church volunteers who regularly reach out to various people who need help.

As Gilbert’s parents and siblings live in the Philippines, access to public medical care and private health insurance is difficult; they have to pay for all the medical expenses on their own. They have sought support from the government, NGO’s and friends, but the cost remains to be significant.

We, his friends want to help give back to Gilbert by financially supporting him during this trying times. Your contributions, no matter how big or small will make a difference to his mum’s (Jane) medical treatment. We deeply appreciate your kindness and your heart to support them in their battle against cancer.

Gilbert’s mum, Jane is currently confined in the hospital with a huge stomach lump, stomach bleeding and heart enlargement. She was diagnosed to have stomach cancer with some pancreatic masses. Due to stomach bleeding and irritation, an operation was done to let her feed through a small tube directly inserted to her intestine. She currently needs a chemotherapy cycle, followed by full removal of her stomach, and then two to three more rounds of chemotherapy. Jane’s brother died a few years ago due to stomach cancer and her sister is also battling cervical cancer for two years.
