Josh is volunteering his time but we need help to pay for his airfare so that he can carry out this important work with Galapagos bats

International

We sent Josh Guilbert, a New Zealand bat expert to the Galapagos in July with your help. The bats were there, an initial conservation plan has been done, but Josh needs to go back to make sure the bat work can continue. The Galapagos National Park needs him, so please help us to get him there.

The Galapagos Islands are one of the world's greatest biological treasures. But the National Park is battling to keep it that way, in the face of pests, diseases and other pressures.

New Zealand is a world leader in island conservation, and Josh is one of New Zealand's few bat experts. He's giving his time free to help with the bats on Galapagos, and the Park is looking after him while he is there. But we need to provide the costs of his travel so we are asking for your help to get him there.

Like a lot of the wildlife, no-one knows how the bats are getting on, and specifically whether they are carrying diseases that would be a concern. The Park is keen to do work on bats, but has no expertise. An important part of Josh's time in Galapagos will be to continue the training of Park Rangers in bat handling techniques so that they can carry on the work when Josh is not there.

Every donation, even a tiny one, will help us help the Galapagos. We are a registered charity, so any donation $5 and over is tax deductible.

Donations over $50 qualify to nominate a name (in good taste) to be added to the bat naming list. As the number of bats caught may be limited we will put the names in order by the size of donation. If your name is given to a bat, you will get a digital photo of your bat and band number, along with updates whenever we get new data associated with it. To nominate a name, just send an email to info@galapagos.org.nz with a copy of your donation receipt.

Every cent donated will go to pay what it will cost us to get Josh to the Galapagos with the equipment he needs to do the work.
