I Believe that there is more to cancer treatment then chemo alone. I believe I haven't finished my journey with cancer. I believe !

Hawke's Bay

My journey with cancer started last November.

I had just finished my " back to nursing" training, when I became unwell. My first thought was that I had done to much. For the last year and a half I had been supporting my husband at home after he suffered a severe brain injury from a car accident. And then the training. I was planning to go back to work, but the Lord had a different plan for me. I was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, metastasized to the liver.

I have gone through 7 rounds of chemo and bowel surgery.

After the seventh round they told me that the chemo isn't working anymore and they have seen new lesions on my liver. They offered me secondline chemo. But the success rate of that is so low, I don't think that is the way to go.

From when I was diagnosed I have been researching alternative treatment. Up till now I haven't undertaken any steps to follow this through, but I believe now is the time to follow this path.

I have contacted a German specialist in Bangkok and he has explained how he treats people as individuals. Not a one for all treatment. He is very structured in his approach to cancer. He uses low-dose chemo therapy, hyperthermia, iv. vit. C, immune enhancement therapy and herbal therapy. He also uses diet and exercise. He is very professional and kind. The treatment involves six weeks in-clinic treatment and then 4 months of home treatment.

I believe this is my next step in my journey with cancer.

Unfortunately I will have to leave my beautiful family behind for six weeks. But my hope is that this treatment will be effective and I will be able to enjoy them for many more years to come.

We have been very blessed with an amazing support network. Not only from family and friends, but also from a very supportive church community. This has made my journey a whole lot easier to handle.

As a family we have saved over the years, and we will use these funds to support this cause, but it is a lot of money that is involved and we are looking for support from other people. I don't know the exact cost of the treatment, but I think it is safe to say that it will be around $80.000.

Eventhough we are looking for finacial help, more than that we need your prayers. So if you can't help out financially please pray that this treatment will be successfull and that our family will be strengthend throughout this time.

For those that are able to support us financially, I will not be able to pay you back. But my promise to you is that if there are funds left I will pay it forward to someone who is in need after me.

With Love, Nelly

Answered Prayer !!!  3 September 2016

This will be my last update from bangkok. It's been seven weeks. 35 hyperthermia sessions, six chemo's 1800 grams of vit. C etc. And lots of prayers. And they have been answered.

On Wednesday I had my pat scan. It showed that all the tumors have reduced in size and out hasn't spread anywhere else. Praise the Lord !!!

We are on the right track.

I am so thankful that this treatment was put on my path. It has felt good from the beginning. It makes sense what they do here. Fight the cancer but also help your body to help yourself. The Lord gives people gifts and if they are used in the right way good things happen.

I'm not there yet. I'll continue the treatment at home for the next two months. I'm taking home four vaccinations. Then at the end of the year we do another pat scan to see what's happening. It will be very important to keep my immune system healthy. Cancer multiplies in 48 hours as your immune system takes a lot longer to get back to healthy.

I've learned interesting things while being here. Not only on medical level but also about trusting in the Lord. The Lord gives me hope, and that's invaluable. Priorities in life. Blessings all around me.

I'm very thankful that Lex could be here with me the last few weeks. I couldn't have done it without him. It's been very important to share this together.

And it is so good that he can take me home on Sunday. Yeah !!!!!!

Can't wait to give the kids a big hug.

We've skyped most days but it's not the same. They are amazing kids. They've been encouraging to me and they are always happy. I thank the Lord for these four beautiful blessings in my life.

I'll update again when I've settled back into routine in nz.

For now another big thank you to everyone. It's been and will continue to be an amazing journey. Thank you for making it possible.

Love to you all.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
