Support for our friend, Salina to fight an aggressive form of cancer.
Waikato
You will never meet a more bubbly. caring and loving person as our receptionist here at CAPS Hauraki, Salina Bonika- King.
Salina is a 41 year old mother of 5 beautiful children and grandmother of 5 gorgeous wee grandchildren. She is married to Tim a local eel fisherman and they are living on their little slice of heaven in Hikutaia.
Salina is always giving to others , is caring and compassionate to everyone who comes into CAPS , and is always the first to help if anyone needs anything. Up until recently Salina was also been a St John Ambulance volunteer.
Sadly Salina has recently found out that she has a very aggressive type of cancer. Even through her intense pain in the last month, she has kept giving, helping organize, and working on, Children’s Day, and continuing to come to work smiling and putting everyone elses needs before her own.
Salina is currently undergoing radiotherapy in Waikato hospital, in the hope that it will slow the spread of the cancer. Her husband Tim is by her side and struggling to continue with his eeling nets.
Tim has also been working away on their wee family house which he has been constructing as time and money allow. The family were forced to move into the converted shed before it was finished as the house they were renting was being sold.
At present there is no insulation or ceiling to keep the dwelling warm or flashings around the sliding door to keep the rain out. This has been fine over the summer months and while Salina was well but as winter approaches it desperately needs work to ensure the family and especially Salina are kept warm and dry over the winter.
We are asking for help from anyone who feels that they are able to help in any way to get the family home ready for the winter months, whether that be a donation, building materials, time and expertise, anything would help.
If you are able to help this family in any way big or small it would be really appreciated.
A group of close colleagues and friends wanting to support Salina and her whanau.
Finishing the family home to make it warm for winter.
God is good..a positive update 11 October 2017
"It's time to update Salina's progress. Thank you to everyone for the donations so far they have been greatly appreciated. We were able to finish Salina and Tim's whare and they have been able to see out the winter months together in their home, warm and cosy. Salina has proven the Drs wrong on so many levels, she has surpassed the original 6 months she was given and remains one of the most positive and beautiful people we know. In her own words
"All praise & thanks to our mighty heavenly father! Just had a call from our Oncologist with awesome news that the tumor has shrunk yet again to 7cm...it was 25cm back in May. My lungs are ok as can be and we wont be doing chemo until we really need it. I still feel sickly & weak often but happy that i have no pain anywhere in my body. Very very happy about this news because i just want to be well enough to go home to Rangitukia for xmas with my family! Thank you all for your prayers & love! We couldn't get through this without u all xoxoxo "
So our next round of funding is to help Salina make the trip back to Rangitukia for Christmas and to have some special whanau time somewhere nice. Thanks again for your support."
