Shelby needs to find $16,000 for her Clinical Masters in Genetic Counselling at Melbourne Uni by Feb.
Canterbury
Shelby is an A+ student who has worked like nothing on earth to complete her degree this year in Otago. She received the award for the top Level 3 Genetics student.
Against the odds, with her father battling cancer during this time, in and out of ICU, and her family living in an earthquake damaged home in ChCh, Shelby was still able to get herself through University, entirely independently, without ever asking for financial support from anyone other than her student loan.
Shelby found out last week, much to everyone's delight, that she has been accepted for a place on this highly prestigious course. Shelby knows that she can work in Melbourne part-time to cover her living costs, but there is no way she can find the $16,000 to pay her course fees by mid February. Shelby can't access NZ Study Link in Australia to cover overseas study costs. She is working as hard as she can to save for her costs for next year, carrying our 40 hours a week in a Christchurch Department Store, and babysitting whenever she can in the evenings.
Shelby will endeavour to apply for scholarships as frantically as she can, but time is against her with the holiday period ahead.
If all of her friends and family know about this, we can offer her support in terms of financial contributions, no matter how small. Shelby will be highly embarrassed and uncomfortable about this, but everyone who knows her will agree, this is money well spent, and in two year's time, this fine young woman will return to New Zealand, equipped to perform miracles. Help make this happen.
I'm involved in this because I am the proud aunty of Shelby, and I have watched her climb her way clear of adversity, and work her soul to the extreme.
I want her to go off to Melbourne, secure in the knowledge that if she needs to get home to her dad, her beautiful family, and her wonderful boyfriend, she'll be able to.
