Carter Smith is 18 months old, he suffered a major stroke on the 8th of May 2017
Auckland
Things got turned upside down for this young families beautiful 18 month old baby boy Carter on the 8th of May. Carter was in bed with his mother Chelsea as Carter had been unsettled. Carter fell on the carpeted floor at about 4 am, Chelsea snuggled him and they both fell back to sleep. when they woke Chelsea noticed Carter was more grizzly than usual and had to carry him around as he did not want to be put down, she got ready for the day and took her two other young children to school, when she noticed his face drooping and was dribbling which Carter never does. Chelsea's sister came over and noticed that Carter was only using one side of his body. They rushed him to an emergency Doctor where they sent him to Middlemore Hospital where Carter had a CT scan, which showed white blotches in his brain, which the doctors thought was bleeding on the brain, which was thought it was from the fall off the bed. But then they saw calcification in his brain also, closer investigation showed it was not blood in his little brain, but he had had a major stroke, he has been having little strokes for awhile, which no one would have known about. He was quickly transferred to Starship Childrens Hospital.
Carter has paralysis on the left side of his body, he can not sit or support himself, he cant suckle. He is being drip fed as there is a risk of fluid going to his lungs. Its is going to be a long road for Carter and his family, while the doctors try to figure out why this happened and to prevent any further stokes from occurring. Carter and his family are in for a long road ahead, and the unknown weeks if not months for Carter to stay in Hospital.
I have set up this page in support of my beautiful Niece Chelsea and her fiance Ben, so that there is a little relief financially on this long road ahead for Chelsea, Ben and their 2 other children. With time off work, back and forward to the hospital even parking at the hospital is so expensive. I want the money that is raised to be used on what the family needs with this difficult time ahead.
Update on Little Carter 15 May 2017
Hi all, an update on Carters progress. Carter has been seen today by the rehab team, he has been accepted into the Wilsons rehabilitation center for children in Takapuna Auckland, which is super amazing... So the journey ahead is unknown, scary and daunting so say the least. But so very grateful to have an amazing team going to be working with Carter.
The family are just so blown away by every ones generosity, and are so thankful.
