Supporting hands on volunteers in Oaxaca to purchase immediate necessities for families in remote regions in Southern Mexico.

BACKGROUND

On Saturday morning Oaxaca was hit with two new earthquakes near the Isthmus, a region still reeling from the big quake on Sept 7th. News is coming in of bridges down, homes and buildings that were precariously standing, now tumbled and lives lost. And last night torrential rains began, exacerbating already-hazardous situations.

This is the third round of big earthquakes in a little over two weeks.

In Oaxaca city it appears that the damage has been minimal. But a big network is hard at work—friends, neighbors and civil society organizations—mobilizing to find what communities around the state, and organizations supporting those communities, need and getting it to them as fast as possible.

There are many villages so small, and isolated they have not been reached by government entities, nor big NGO support.

Here on the ground, through personal networks, friends are trying to find out where support is flowing to better channel materials, hands and expertise where it’s still needed and not arriving.

This is where they need a bit of help.

After two weeks of taking rescue supplies to different centers, they are just plain running out of money. But they have hands to put to work, a local network to best move supplies and you, my community farther afoot.

If you can donate any amount to help us quickly respond to needs emerging as news comes in, this would be a BIG help.

Donations would be used for immediate, emergency needs that we detect and can respond to quickly. As an example, just yesterday morning there was a call out for large tarps in the community of Ixtaltepec, where buildings came down at 8 in the morning. People were sleeping in the street last night and need to make provisional shelters from the rains that were intense are and constant throughout this season.

Through friends we rallied money together, transport and found people heading out to the village in a few hours.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
