    Hi everyone.

Well what a year it has been for the mcmurt family as we wind down 2016.

Since the last update we relocated to Ronald McDonald house in Wellington for 3 weeks while Em underwent Radiation Therapy. The accommodation was amazing and the girls absolutely loved their time there. We would like to send a massive shout out and thanks to all the staff and volunteers in Welly. Please support any fundraisers etc for Ronald McDonald houses as they really do amazing work.

Em's therapy went extremely well and again the staff in Wellington Hospital were amazing. As part of the radiation planning Emily had a CT scan. This showed the cancer in her pelvis was unchanged following the chemo. This meant she had another bone scan to check the cancer hadn't spread from her pelvis after it's sat there for 7 months not responding to treatment. Fortunately it came back all clear elsewhere so the cancer had stayed contained to the pelvis. So they zapped Em's pelvis with a high dose of radiation to hopefully get rid of it. Other than that, things are very stable at the moment and apart from 3 weekly Herceptin, life will go back to normal for us and Em will have another scan in a years time to check things.

We want to take this opportunity to say a massive thanks to everyone who have supported us in any way this year. It has been a tough year and we would not have made it through without the support we have received. We are totally humbled and thankful.

Bring on 2017 and a year of fun with hopefully not too many doctor visits.

Merry Christmas to everyone and again thanks so much from the McMurtrie family.

  • Surgery done and dusted

    Hi Everyone.

Well it is 5 days since Emily had her mastectomy and she is doing extremely well. 2 nights in Hospital and then has been home since. 1 of the drains has come out and we are hoping the second and last drain may come out on Tuesday which will mean she doesn't have to constantly carry a bag around.

In terms of the surgery, the doctor was very happy. She said there was no visible sign of the tumor which was great considering how large it was and shows the chemo has done its job. We now wait for tests to be done on the breast and lymph nodes to find out if there was any microscopic cancer remaining. This could mean more chemo so hopefully this comes back clear.

A massive thanks to family and Emily's unties for coming to stay and look after us post surgery. And a huge thanks to Emily's surgeon Sue McKeage and all the staff involved from Wairau Hospital who did an amazing job both for the surgery, post surgery care and the chemo.

So whats next? in a few weeks the family will be in Wellington for 3 weeks while Emily has her radiation therapy.

Thats about it. Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts and best wishes.

    From the Mcmurts.

    Hi everyone

Sorry for my lack of updates lately but we have just been in the routine of Chemo and nothing has really changed. That was until last Wednesday when Emily had her 6th and last Chemo. So she is all done on the Chemo front and very happy about that.

Today we met with Emily's radiation therapy oncologist from Wellington. He ran us through the process for the radiation therapy which Emily will complete in November. This was a very reassuring meeting with the side effects of Radiation no where near as sever as Chemo.

Emily is also meeting with the surgeon on Wednesday to discuss her mastectomy which will take place around early October.

We are just trucking along with the continued support of family, friends and the community.

Emily and i would like to thank the nurses at Blenheim Oncology for their support/positive attitude and fun times during Chemo.

First hurdle down now 2 to go.

I will let everyone know how the surgery goes in early October.

    Love from the Mcmurts

  • Continued progress

    Hi everyone

Things are going pretty well with us at the moment. Emily is having her 4th round of chemo this week and after her 3rd round her side effects were minimal which was awesome. We are hoping for a similar response this round. Em's tumor continues to shrink and her breast basically looks normal again. The doctors are very happy with progress have have already penciled in a date for her surgery.

We were able to make first use of the give a little money last week where we paid for Emily's sister, Ally, to have an MRI scan. Because we don't get genetic results back for another few months to see if Em's cancer is genetic or not and by this time Ally will be continuing her travel around South America and Europe, we wanted to make sure that there was nothing going on with her and did this privately. I am happy to say her results came back as all clear which we are very happy about.

We will continue to truck along, thank you again to everyone who continue to support us in many many different ways.

Em has her 3rd round of chemo tomorrow which is half way! And as you can see she has a new wig which looks great! A massive thanks to all friends and family and the community for their support through this! The things people have done for us over the past few months has been totally amazing! A long road ahead but we have started the fight well! Love from the mcmurts.

Hi everyone. Well it is the day before Chemo round 2 and Emily met with the doctor today to check on progress. The tumour in Emily's breast has already shrunk considerably and the doctor was very happy with results of Chemo so far.

As you can see Em's hair has started to fall out so she decided to chop it. I did a very average job so Em got a professional to complete things.

A massive thanks for all the support and messages guys we are truly overwhelmed with the generosity of people.

I will keep you updated on progress

    Thanks

    Chris
