Emily has recently been diagnosed with secondary Breast Cancer and is needing support for her husband Chris and their two young daughters.
Marlborough
Emily and Chris have two young daughters, Ada (2 years) and Mabel (6 weeks). Shortly after the birth of Mabel, Emily was diagnosed with breast cancer and then within days, found out the cancer had spread to her pelvis. Unfortunately this form of cancer is incurable.
The next 6 months will be a trying time for this young family as Emily undergoes Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and surgery. Any means of support that you can offer, will greatly benefit Emily, Chris and their two young daughters.
The intention is that the money raised be used to help ease financial burden over the coming months. Chris is a PE teacher and Dean at Marlborough Boys College and has reduced his hours at work to spend time with Emily, Ada and Mabel.
My wife Cheryl and I, and our close friends have formed a close relationship with Chris, Emily and their girls and want to help in any way possible.
Bye Bye 2016 Hello 2017 19 December 2016
Hi everyone.
Well what a year it has been for the mcmurt family as we wind down 2016.
Since the last update we relocated to Ronald McDonald house in Wellington for 3 weeks while Em underwent Radiation Therapy. The accommodation was amazing and the girls absolutely loved their time there. We would like to send a massive shout out and thanks to all the staff and volunteers in Welly. Please support any fundraisers etc for Ronald McDonald houses as they really do amazing work.
Em's therapy went extremely well and again the staff in Wellington Hospital were amazing. As part of the radiation planning Emily had a CT scan. This showed the cancer in her pelvis was unchanged following the chemo. This meant she had another bone scan to check the cancer hadn't spread from her pelvis after it's sat there for 7 months not responding to treatment. Fortunately it came back all clear elsewhere so the cancer had stayed contained to the pelvis. So they zapped Em's pelvis with a high dose of radiation to hopefully get rid of it. Other than that, things are very stable at the moment and apart from 3 weekly Herceptin, life will go back to normal for us and Em will have another scan in a years time to check things.
We want to take this opportunity to say a massive thanks to everyone who have supported us in any way this year. It has been a tough year and we would not have made it through without the support we have received. We are totally humbled and thankful.
Bring on 2017 and a year of fun with hopefully not too many doctor visits.
Merry Christmas to everyone and again thanks so much from the McMurtrie family.
