Running the Christchurch Marathon to Support the Foundation for Children

This June, a number of us are going to be running the Christchurch half marathon to raise money for the Foundation for Children. We spent five weeks in Thailand completing internships related to our studies; two of us volunteered at the Sunflower House which is part of the Foundation for Children.

What is the Foundation for Children!?

The Foundation for Children was developed in 1979 to help deal with the growing problems of malnutrition. People during this time became less aware of health and nutrition, and became more driven towards material wealth. At this time, people fed babies condensed milk which resulted in many health issues.

Once the government became more aware of the issues of malnutrition (they now have some free lunches in schools), aims of the foundation have shifted towards not only caring for malnourished children, but also those who are abandoned, exploited, poor, and abused. More than 50% of the children in the care of the Foundation for Children are neglected. The Foundation for Children is not about adopting children out, it is about supporting families and parents to work hard to get in a better position to take care of their children again. It runs purely on donations.

Help us to raise money for the foundation. The money raised with go towards clothing, milk powder, staff wages, maintenance, education, and supplies needed. Without money donated the foundation would not be able to run and do the fantastic work they do in Thailand. The money donated will come to me, which I will pass on as soon as this fundraiser closes to the foundation in Thailand.
