    Hi whanau,

I’m not sure if I mentioned but I closed the page at $966 as we had private donations that exceeded our goal and still continue to receive donations these are with his own bank account & can only be enquired or withdrawn from the bank with good reason (medical needs for Mikaere & whanau).

We also have amazing support from Te Whatu Ora, and social work organisations through ICU & NICU.

Friday 2nd May Mikaere had a appointment with his paediatrician Deb, dietician Ally and surgical GP all was good except slight weight drop but steady growth, the dietician requested I try formula which I did Monday 5th unfortunately after a tablespoon he broke out badly around the mouth within minutes we were rushed to the doctors & monitored. Likely allergies to dairy or lactose intolerance another update in 3-4 weeks with dietician Paula working beside us with baby she also gave us a fat substitute for baby to gain some weight which he is taking well. Overall baby is ok & has also started kohanga with papa 2hrs a week weaning in & he absolutely loves it.

He is getting stronger able to hold his head very well, likes to kick and punch around. We are now learning to roll.

I have added a photo of his reaction post formula.

    Talk soon whanau,

    Lainz

    Kia Ora whanau,

Wee update from Mikaere-Ray at 3 months & he is doing very well. Surgically successful the incision area looks like a fold of skin such a clean cut from most experienced surgeon. Medically Mikaere is only stomaching my breast milk we tried goats milk on 2 occasions unsuccessfully vomiting straight after a sign his gastro isn’t handling the contents and that’s ok.

However Mikaere is taking advantage of this and not taking the bottle via my express milk. Mikaere has an appt with a dietician in May as we prepare him for solids around end of June when he is 6 months as we try to work out best Kai for his puku will update in another 3 months time how we go but overall everything is very good.

Mikaere has his own bank account, savings and KiwiSaver. The money from here and other sources has been now transferred to his own account & will be used for him medically should we come into urgent costs relating to his health.

    Costs spent so far

$140 for camera baby monitor system

    $150 baby auto swing

    $139 bottle & feeding equipment

    $400 baby capsule & pram

    $80 bedding equipment for elevation

Thank you again everyone for being part of and supporting this journey. Photo update of Mikaere 10/4

Mikaere has had the last tube (nutrition) fed tube from the leg removed today. Is now feeding full 63mls with no spills, no complications.

He only has the nasal feed tube as a back up. He tried the breast tonight as a top up suckling 5x pause suckles pause and eventually falls asleep. He is very alert and attentive I just can’t comprehend how fast he is cruising through recovery. I read the Three little pigs, enjoys mum reading books, hearing mums voice. Tummy time & cuddle. Next goal for the week: first bath 🙏

Mikaere-Ray is on a real good road to recovery on Friday the plan was to start feeds from 1mls adding 2mls every 3 hourly.

Mikaere is now at 44mls & increases until he reaches full feeds of 63mls of expressed breast milk.

He is passing stools with no issues the photo I have attached is what his bowel looked like pre surgery just to understand how important it is he is able to pass normally and he has not had a spill (vomit) after every feed. Over the weekend Mikaere was shifted from the “critical” incubator space, breathing tube removed goal is working to feed full before nutrition & feeding tubes are removed.
