Supporting baby Ollyver, born with rare Amniotic Band Syndrome affecting his face and eye, as he faces multiple surgeries
Canterbury, Timaru District
Our beautiful boy, Ollyver, was born with a rare condition called Amniotic Band Syndrome (ABS), which happens when fibrous bands from the amniotic sac wrap around parts of a developing baby in the womb. These bands can restrict growth and, in severe cases like Ollyver’s, cause deformities or loss of function.
In Ollyver’s case, the bands formed around his head and face, a location so rare that very few documented cases exist worldwide. The bands wrapped tightly around his scalp, affecting the development of his eye and leaving him blind in one eye. Despite everything he’s been through, Ollyver continues to amaze everyone with his strength, his little smiles, and his fighting spirit.
Ollyver has already seen specialists from across New Zealand and will be undergoing multiple reconstructive surgeries, including care from a plastic surgeon in Wellington. Each step forward involves travel, hospital stays, and time away from home and work.
This fundraiser has been created to help ease the financial strain of ongoing medical appointments, travel costs, surgeries, and household expenses, and to give us the chance to stay by Ollyver’s side without the added pressure of rushing back to work too soon.
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. It helps us focus on what truly matters — giving Ollyver the best care and the brightest future possible.
With love and gratitude,
Ollyver’s Family
