  • Home Bound!

      4 April 2022

Thank you to everyone that has donated through this Givealittle page, it truly is amazing the amount of support Brenden has received! He appreciates every one of you 💚🖤

Brenden enters his final week at Burwood Spinal Unit in Christchurch. He will be heading home to Gisborne this Thursday 🙌🏼

It has now been 4 months since Brenden’s accident at Meeanee Speedway. It’s been a long road to where he is today. Initially given very little hope of walking again, Brenden has proved anything is possible through his sheer determination to not give up.

The video on the Gooch Motorsport Facebook page, shows how far he has come. With the help of his physio’s, Brenden has exceeded expectations and continues to improve everyday.

A few people Brenden would like to thank:

A huge thanks to the Burwood physio team & nurses; you guys are amazing! I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without you all. Also to everyone I’ve met in the spinal unit, you’ve all made this journey so much easier. I am happy to have made some new friends for life here at Burwood.

A special thanks to James & Cush for being there every step of the way; opening up your house for me & my family and for taking me out on the weekends. You guys rock!

Thanks also to my family for all of your support and the many trips down to Christchurch. Last but not least, thank you to my partner Kaz for looking after our beautiful kids. You have been my rock throughout this!

Brenden looks forward to being back at home with his family and friends. He will be continuing his physio in Gisborne with his next goal to get on crouches before properly walking again.

As said by Brenden “This race is not over” 💚🖤

Brenden is now 8 weeks into his rehab at Burwood Spinal Unit in Christchurch.

Brenden arrived at Burwood with little feeling from the waist down and unable to move his legs without assistance.

With the help of the wonderful staff at Burwood, Brenden has made some amazing progress over the last couple of months.

With 2 physio sessions each day, Brenden has built up the strength in his legs to bike 10km a day as well as stand with full weight on his legs. This photo shows how far his progress has come; back up on his feet walking 🙌🏼

Brenden’s determination throughout this has been nothing short of incredible, often heading down to physio early to put in extra work before his sessions start. He knows he still has a long road in front of him but is up for it 💪🏼

Thanks to everyone that has sent in messages of support and the friends and family that have come from afar to visit Brenden. Also a huge thanks to the Burwood nurses and physiotherapists, Brenden’s recovery wouldn’t be where it is today without you all 💚🖤

  • Update on Brenden

      24 December 2021

Brenden has now been transferred to Burwood Spinal Unit in Christchurch where he will start his rehab. He was happy when he arrived at Burwood to be placed in room number 10 with his nurses being part of the green team 💚. He will be based there for 3-4 months.

His recovery to date is going as well as it can. He has little feeling below the waist but has a bit of movement in both legs which is great. Brenden is eager to get stuck into his rehab, determined to give himself every chance of walking again.

A huge thank you to everyone that has contributed to Brenden’s Givealittle page.

Thank you also to the individuals, companies & Speedway tracks that have gone out on their own to fundraise towards Brenden’s recovery. The amount of love and support shown over the last couple of weeks has been absolutely amazing. Brenden appreciates everyone’s support and can’t thank everyone enough.

Wishing everyone a Merry Xmas and happy New Year 💚🖤
