Supporting Fin Paddison and Family

  • TODAY Fin has finally come home - after 7 months!!!

      13 November 2025

Fin’s journey reached a massive milestone today and no one could be any happier than Fin himself, and of course his partner and family!! He was discharged this morning and celebrated coming home with stop at Puhoi pub for lunch and a cold beer on the way, the beer he said tasted like freedom!! His sense of humour is as strong as ever and he is sharper by the day. The past 7 months he has been in living at rehabilitation clinics in Auckland (ABI Brain Injury Clinic and then the Spinal Unit) while recovering and undergoing intense rehabilitation. Fin’s journey now is learning to live a new life with the injuries he sustained having left him paralysed and in a wheelchair. Fin will live with his parents until he is able to live independently again, his dad Dayne recently resigned from his job to become Fin’s main support and carer, a role that will also be shared with an ACC carer.

WOW how awesome our Community is!!

AND.. we are aiming to get Fin there for part of the day as well!!

There will be a netball game, under 21’s rugby, and the Golden Oldies are playing the Parliamentarians team!!

Come along for a fun day everyone is welcome.

Since our last update Fin has been putting in the hardest work ever and boy is it paying off, he is talking a lot and his sense of humour is 100% back!! He has one home visit for a few hours each weekend, and he will be moved to the Middlemore Spinal Unit for the next part of his rehabilitation soon, there he will learn to navigate life without the use of his legs.

And with this update today we’re extending the Givealittle page until after the fundraiser day 😊

  • Fin's Recovery Journey

      7 August 2025

This month will mark 4 months!

For the past 2+ months Fin has been living at ABI Ranui in Auckland, a rehabilitation center specifically for people with traumatic brain injuries, like what he sustained in the fall. His days/weeks have been tiring with therapy session after therapy session - as he has been re-learning the basics, all over.

And what a pro he has been! Just this week Fin was able to speak his first words!!

We are so incredibly proud of him and how amazing he has been doing with all that the therapists throw at him. We are there by his side daily with as much love as is possible and are constantly encouraging him to be strong and to stay positive as he navigates through this tough journey.

There are some really hard, hard days for him at the moment. And needless to say that his therapy will be on-going for some time yet.

This week did mark another huge milestone and Fin was allowed home for his first visit - a few hours last Sunday! WOW.

Thank you to everyone again for your constant love and support xx

  • Update on Fin’s Recovery

      10 June 2025

We are approaching 8 weeks now since Fin’s tragic fall and although he is showing the most incredible strength - he has a long hard road ahead of him! Fin is still in Auckland Hospital’s High Dependency Unit.  He is becoming aware of what’s happened to him now and the emotional aspect of this is extremely hard to navigate, both for him and for us.  It’s day by day, and the exhaustion has set in.  Still, we are at his side every day encouraging him to do his absolute best with our utmost love and support!   Fin has a huge journey ahead of him and our hearts are heavy with the reality that Fin’s spinal injury will be limiting for him.  He does have an hour or so in his wheelchair each day so we can take him up and down the corridor. His traumatic brain injury will require a lot of inner strength and persistence to find his new normal. The next move which is hopefully very soon, is to ABI, a Traumatic Brain Rehabilitation Centre in Auckland where he will  start his next journey of rehabilitation.  Once again we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for your amazing support and generosity. Dayne, Tracey, Eli, Taryn – and family.

  • Update from Fin's parents

      29 April 2025

Thank you all for all the love and support that you have been giving us it truely means the world. Fin is a battler! We are so proud of him! We have had a few days where he opens his eyes when we talk to him and looks around. Yesterday he had surgery on his spine and held on tight to all of our hands before he was taken to surgery. Seeing the little steps forward Fin is making daily is bringing such hope. Thank you again, we are feeling the love. We are just hoping and praying 🙏
