Help volunteers support local Nepalese clinicians care for amputees who have no access to prosthetics without our involvement
Nationwide
Losing a limb is a devastating physical and psychological experience for anyone, and for adults and children in countries where prosthetics are not routinely available, it can also mean losing your job, your home, and even your family.
In Nepal, of the 22,000 injured in the earthquake, around 5,000 people were left with physical disabilities that will affect the rest of their lives.
I have been working as a Prosthetist for the past 5 years at prosthetic centres in both the UK and New Zealand gaining experience and knowledge. I have been asked to join a team of volunteers to travel to Nepal and assist in providing further education and care.
In partnership with Oda Foundation, and Prosthetics Without Borders, AKOC volunteers on our Back on Their Feet program has already provided life changing surgery and prosthetic limbs to 25 amputees living in the remote and impoverished district of Kalikot in West Nepal. Help volunteers reach local Nepalese clinicians and amputees who have no access to prosthetics without our involvement
On 28th October I shall be attempting to complete a 12km run over Auckland Harbour Bridge! If you're around in Auckland, please show your support for the Out On A LIMB Team who will all be putting their best foot forward!
Any additional funds raised will be donated to the AKOC appeal and help the amputees directly, so lets raise the roof and help in every way possible!
Funds will be used for:
Flights to rural Nepal
Multiple flights required to kathmandu, kalikot and jumla
