NZIBO fosters excellence in biology for 100's of top students but needs your support to raise enough funds to allow the NZ team to compete.
Nationwide
Anika Hayes, Jifei Shao, Luca Ririnui & Sophie Webber are the top 4 NZ secondary school biologists and have been studying hard for up to two years to be able to represent NZ at the International Biology Olympiad competition in Kazakhstan this July. https://www.ibo2024.kz/
This prestigious competition brings the brightest young biologists from more than 80 countries around the world together to compete and inspire the next generation of leaders in science. It is a life-changing experience and NZ 'punches above it's weight', winning medals every year. These ordinary, hardworking, and talented NZ students from Oamaru, Auckland, Mount Maunganui, and Havelock North need $30,000 for team registration and travel. It is a pretty difficult task to fundraise such a large amount in just 7 weeks. Please help these wonderful young students represent NZ, they will do us proud!
NZIBO fosters excellence in biology providing University level Biology education to 100's of our top NZ secondary students & selecting a team of 4 to represent NZ at the prestigious annual International Biology Olympiad. (CC41716, NZBN 9429043197804).
Team registration, airfares, accommodation, meals for the NZ team to attend the IBO in Kazakhstan, July 2024. Money raised in excess of what is needed to attend the competition will be used for the NZIBO programme, benefiting 100's of talented students.
Luca Ririnui - introducing our final team member 8 June 2024
Kia ora tātou, ko Ngai Te Rangi tōku iwi, ko Luca Ririnui tōku ingoa. I'm a year 13 student at Mount Maunganui College and I'm so excited to compete with the rest of Team Aotearoa at the International Biology Olympiad in Kazakhstan this July. I'm passionate about many areas of science, but I find that there's something especially magical about the mechanisms of life - how natural compounds and physical forces interact to create the experience we all live every day. In my spare time I enjoy debating, playing badminton, and a little bit of acting on the side. Unfortunately, I can't argue with invertebrates or bacterial genomes, so I'll have to rely on my dissecting and molecular bio skills there! It was a huge honour to be selected with the other 3 incredible students on this team, I know we're all hoping to make our country proud in just a few weeks' time.
Thank you so much team. The support you have given the NZIBO programme and our students over many years is massive and we really appreciate it. You make a real difference for science education in NZ.
Jessica, thank you so much. The team will make sure to make you proud!
Max, thank you and thanks for your ongoing support of NZIBO. We have the best alumni and I feel very privileged to volunteer in this organization
