Supporting the NZ Biology Olympiad team to international success in UAE

NZIBO has selected a wonderful team of 4 secondary school students to complete against students from more than 80 countries at the 34th International Biology Olympiad in July in the United Arab Emirates. The team is Ashleigh Bernacchi (Pinehurst School), Allan Han (Macleans College), Jacob Miller (Mount Albert Grammar School), and Jifei Shao (St Cuthbert's College). They will be accompanied by two team leaders, Dr Angela Sharples, MNZM, and Mr Nick Bryant, both from Matamata College.

These students have worked hard at a University level for more than a year, completing an online tutorial programme, attending a residential camp, and sitting 4 selection exams to be selected to represent NZ at this prestigious international event from the 400 hundred students from schools around the country that enter the programme. They are truly our top young biologists, but this is an expensive trip and they need your help.

In the past students have been funded for registration and travel costs by MBIE via the Royal Society Te Apārangi. With Covid and a review of funding priorities underway within MBIE and the Royal Society, these amazing students will only be partially funded this year.
