We are fundraising to support the wonderful Rex through his cancer journey
Paihia, Northland
Recently, Rex received the news that he has stage 4 prostate cancer. It's the news that no one ever wishes to hear, but we're incredibly hopeful and optimistic that through treatment Rex will make a full recovery.
We're fundraising to show our support, love, and friendship to Rex, Fiona and their family as they go through this difficult journey.
As many of you in Paihia and beyond will know, Rex is the volunteer Chief Fire Officer at the Paihia Fire Station, and he's given so much to so many people throughout his 26 years of service to the community. It's now our time to give back to him.
Whether you can spare $10 or $100, every little bit counts and will go a long way to supporting Rex and Fiona, and making this journey ahead for them that little bit less challenging.
All funds will go directly to Rex and Fiona to support private medical costs, petrol, accommodation, and all other unforeseen costs that come with battling cancer.
Thank you in advance for your goodwill, generosity and kindness.
A friend of the lovely Wilson family

What's happening... 6 May 2022
Fortunately with the help of our wonderful community, friends and family and an amazing surgeon, Rex has had his prostrate along with the aggressive cancer, removed 4 weeks ago. The process took 4 1/2 hours using a robotic assisted surgery. He had an update from his surgeon yesterday and had news that the surgery was very successful. Due to the cancers location a close eye is going to be kept in the next few weeks to ensure all the blood PSA levels reduce down to a level the medical profession deem as safe in his situation. Rex is recovering well being fit and active prior to the operation. He is following the program from a specialized physiotherapist and has returned part time to his work doing only light duties. One thing he would like all you guys to do though is have their annual health checks, including a simple PSA blood sample to detect any prostrate abnormalities early.
Once again thank you to everyone who has helped either through Give a Little, accomodation and travel costs, ready to eat dinners moral support or simply hugs. Thanks. Fiona. Michael and Nikki Xx
