Please donate to help Stacey and her family during her fight against her recent diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
Otago
We have all been overwhelmed with the recent news of Stacey being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at just 32 years of age.
A fortnight ago she started feeling a bit off colour but only with a slight sore throat and swollen glands, so she got checked out and after a blood test it raised some red flags, so we rushed to Dunedin for further tests.
Our biggest fear as a family was confirmed, Stacey was diagnosed with a very rare Leukaemia for her age group. It was told to us that in this age bracket it comes on super-fast, and the incredible doctors must respond immediately to start treatment. So, with that she went straight into Dunedin hospital for back-to-back rounds of chemotherapy.
Her treatment is continuing over the next few months and until we know the results, we will be supporting her as much as we can in Dunedin and have managed to secure a motel 5 minutes from where she is to be close by when we are in Dunedin. There may be a possibility that we have to travel to Christchurch for a bone marrow transplant in the middle of the year which will also mean we have to stay there for around 3 months.
With this treatment we will have to travel between Dunedin, Southland and possibly Christchurch over the next 6 to 9 months.
It looks like we are in for a hell of a ride for 2021 but we are a tight wee unit and have such amazing support.
Stacey is such a hardworking, generous and caring person and we know we can get through this. It is so humbling to see true kindness and love from so many people at times like this and we are so grateful for all the support we have received already.
Ive know the family for many years, Stacey is a kind, generous, humorous and hard working woman with a great family. People want to help and don’t know how so I thought this would be a help to all .
Travel, accommodation and on going costs which may accrue for Stacey and her family over the coming months . We also want to donate any remaining funds to the NZ Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Foundation.
Thank you from Stacey 28 March 2021
Thank-you everyone for your ridiculously kind donations over the last week. Sorry I haven't been able to thank you all personally but the Hansen/Sanson/MacGibbon clan are all super grateful and humbled by all the love and support that has been thrown our way.
Asking for money was never something I wanted or was comfortable with, but then I had to give an alien looking "stool" sample to the cool nurses my age and I lost all remaining dignity.
I will be using this money to help pay for the accommodation and travel expenses of my family, so that I can continue to have someone here to cook me toast, force me to drink water, and eventually wipe my arse. That part won't be necessary but we know how Lisa likes to feel important.
Thanks again! Hugely appreciated.
Stacey.
