Help Aaron's parents who are both going through cancer treatment right now
Waikato
The lovely Ooi family are going through unprecedented hard times currently with both of Aaron's parents Annie and Richard being diagnosed with late stage cancer within days of each other.
Aaron has flown back (from his fellowship in Canada) at short notice to support his family.
Richard, 68, has been diagnosed with metastatic gastric cancer which is non-operable. Annie, 62, has been diagnosed stage 3 breast cancer. Both are currently undergoing chemotherapy prior to pursuing their next steps of treatment. For Annie, this will be surgery with curative intent. Unfortunately for Richard, this will be non-curative therapy with pembrolizumab. This is an UNFUNDED immunotherapy costing $75k which would give him precious time with family and friends. Without this, his prognosis is very short.
For those of you who know Aaron and his beautiful family, you will agree with me that they are the most kind and giving human beings. Many of us would've had delicious meals prepared by Annie and Richard, who love to make each and one of us feel welcomed to their home. They are generous, optimistic and always willing to give up their time and energy for others.
Annie and Richard are both retired with limited income. Aaron will have limited work capacity as he will have to support his parents through these physically and emotionally challenging times.
We ask to kindly donate what you can to help this family during this difficult time. Thank you

Pembrolizumab (immunotherapy suggested by oncologist) costing $75K
Update 19 December 2022
I was hoping to individually message everyone but the functionality of the site doesn't seem to permit this - so just wanted to say a huge thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your generous donations. We were able to use the funds to initiate immunotherapy for dad and while the intent is still non-curative, this has bought us some precious time with him.
He is stable at the moment, and our focus is now on creating memories with the time we have. We were able to celebrate his birthday recently, a milestone which we weren't sure 6 months ago if we would reach. Mum has also since completed treatment and recovering well.
Know that all your support has been so very much appreciated during this tricky time and we are eternally grateful. Wishing everyone a safe and festive holiday season.
Much love as always,
Aaron and family.
