Can I ask why you are not repatriating the bodies of your friends home as this can be done without family members coming to New Zealand? A person can be appointed here to work on the family's behalf. The ACC payment would cover that.
Also have you given any thought to donating anything to the truck driver who has to live with this tragedy for the rest of his life?

James and Mao are the providers for their parents. It doesn't like New Zealand, their country doesn't have a good welfare system cover the family like them. Because of the bad financial and health condition of their parents. The fund will be directly given to their parents through the lawyer. ACC only cover the funeral cost, not other compensation for the family. As New Zealand is James' favourite country, their family decided to hold the funeral in New Zealand. Besides, all the process needs a lawyer to involve as I am not a family member to the couple. I don't think ACC will cover the cost of the lawyer.
Their family members have to live with this tragedy for the rest of their life. Till now, the police still not find the reason for the accident, neither reveal the name of the truck driver. You can do another fundraising for the mental health of the truck driver if you want.

We don't have it yet. But both sides of family members need to come to New Zealand to deal with lots of things. Including Visa fee, Consultant fee, Quarantine, future support of both sides of parents since the lack of welfare from their countries. It would be better as much as possible.
