We're raising money to assist Jane in accessing life-extending and quality of life-improving treatments that will help her greatly.
Bay of Plenty
Everyone knows that Jane Mangan is an amazing woman who is deeply loved. She's a great mother, a deeply valued sibling and a wonderful friend to many.
Over the last 9 months she's been facing her greatest challenge in the form of ovarian cancer that now threatens her life and has advanced to stage IV.
During this time she went from experiencing initial tummy upset, ongoing testing, misdiagnosis, then continued pain and bloating leading to the eventual cancer diagnosis. She responded well to initial chemo, followed by a devastatingly unsuccessful surgery and she is now onto the second round of chemo (which we are deeply hopeful will keep her cancer at bay for a time). Jane has been inspiring throughout all of this, continuing to be a pillar of strength among her family and friends.
Many of the people reading this will share this sense of inspiration, love and respect for Jane. We need your help to ensure she is able to access the standard of care and treatment needed to improve and extend her quality of life throughout.
We've set up this page as a family to raise money to assist Jane in her treatment - specifically either Avastin or Olaparib, depending on the outcome of some upcoming tests. These drugs currently aren't funded in NZ for women in Jane's situation and the cost is a huge barrier to access. Studies show that both of these drugs can have a significant effect on extending time before recurrence of cancer (which drug depends on the test results), and in turn life expectancy.
We have a huge amount of appreciation for everyone reading this post, your thoughts, kind words and support are deeply valued. If you are able to make a contribution to the funds this would be a massive help.
With love and gratitude,
Ella, Kern and Murray
They are my mother - trying to raise funds to help them
Funding will be used to access Avastin (currently not funded in NZ) or Olaparib (also not funded in NZ for Jane's situation), to improve and extend her life as she continues with her journey. Any surplus will be donated to the organisation Talk Peach.
March 2021 Update on Jane's Treatment 14 March 2021
Hey wonderful people,
Hope you’ve all been good as we wave goodbye to summer and enter Autumn. We just wanted to give a quick update on how Jane is doing and her treatment is progressing.
Last week she began her first Avastin treatment which will continue once every three weeks, with weekly chemo continuing alongside this. We’re hoping that this extends her time significantly and allows her to have the best possible quality of life. While there are some people who have negative experiences with it, there are people who’ve gone on to live much longer than they would have otherwise.
We’re really hoping that Jane is in this group, but only time will tell. So far so good, with only minor side effects - which is a good sign.
We really wanted to thank all of you for your incredible generosity and for helping to make this treatment option possible for Jane. It truly does mean a lot.
Even though the Givealittle fundraising closes today, we’ll still be posting updates to keep you informed about how things are going.
With love and gratitude,
Ella, Kern and Murray
