M.A.T.C.H - the Māoriland Tech Creative Hub will put new technology in the hands of our rangatahi. We need your help to resource it!

Wellington

M.A.T.C.H (Māoriland “AHI” Tech Creative Hub) will put new technology in the hands of our young people.

Korakora Matihiko is a two week expo running from May 17 - June 1 at the Māoriland Hub in Ōtaki with Indigenous games, Indigenous games, animation, VR & 360 and comics including rangatahi workshops and public kōrero. It opens M.A.T.C.H which will be open weekly after school from June for rangatahi to learn tech creative skills in focused workshops, one on one training, ‘hackathons’, creative challenges, and ‘free-play’ led by industry leaders and fellow rangatahi.

M.A.T.C.H will be the first Māori led tech hub for rangatahi in the Kāpiti Coast. There is currently nothing like this for rangatahi in our region.

Key learning areas include editing, graphic design, coding, animation, Virtual Reality and new story telling.

These activities will build leadership capacity by encouraging rangatahi to use creative thinking and problem solving to develop and build creative solutions to given challenges.

Rangatahi who participate in M.A.T.C.H will develop creative tech literacy, mental agility and adaptability and hard technical skills. They will also develop collaboration and leadership skills through group work and tuakana-teina mentoring. M.A.T.C.H will support rangatahi to achieve in Hangarau Matihiko.

We need your help to resource M.A.T.C.H!

For M.A.T.C.H to be accessible to all rangatahi, to run smoothly and for our rangatahi to be able to learn at their full potential, the Māoriland Charitable Trust needs to purchase 10 high end computers. These will be used by rangatahi to learn and create with the latest software.

Computers are classified as “capital items” and cannot be purchased with the support from our partners - Vodafone Foundation, Te Puni Kōkiri, Ministry of Youth Development and the Todd Foundation. It's really difficult to find funding that can be used to purchase technology!

This is the last piece of a puzzle that has been two years in the making - every donation counts, big and small!

About us

Māoriland exists for the social, economic and educational success of its community in Otaki through connection to the wider world of Indigenous creativity and innovation.

Use of funds

Our goal on Givealittle is to raise $12,500 - this will purchase 5 highly spec'd computers for M.A.T.C.H - the Māoriland Tech Creative Hub.

This is half of what we need. Any money raised above this goal will go towards additional computers.
