We need a hardstand at Okahu Bay

  • Clear public support for a hardstand at The Landing

      31 October 2023

Ōrākei Local Board asked for feedback on their decision to close the hardstand at The Landing and the response from ratepayers is NO.

Results of the Ōrākei Local Board public consultation on retention of the hardstand at Okahu Bay shows a clear majority (64%) support retention of a short stay haul out and hardstand facility for boat cleaning and/or anti-foul application.

There were 1,558 respondents of which 617 were Ōrākei residents. The response shows the hardstand is a regional issue and the Ōrākei Local Board does not have a mandate for closure.

    Thank you for supporting

We have sent a proposal to the Orakei Local Board regarding public consultation on the hard stand. This has not altered our preparations for the September hearing date

  • Judicial Review date set for 18 September

      2 May 2023

We are awaiting the interim injunction decision after our appearance on April 18th but a date has been set for the Judicial Review and we are well on our way to finishing our statement of claim. We still need your help as it looks like it may take two days in court. Thank you for your support so far, if the hardstand closes it will be nigh impossible to re-open.

  • Actions so far

      22 April 2023

Thank you for your support and apologies for the late acknowledgement. To update you we have appeared at the High Court (18 April) and are awaiting the Judge’s decision on an interim injunction before a full hearing. We are also preparing our case to the Environment Court over apartment developments at Bayswater marina.

During these proceedings and discussions to protect boat launching and hull cleaning it is alarming to find the council has no interest in protecting shoreline assets where many relax, swim and paddle. A statement from council “Space in coastal locations is increasingly attractive to alternative development”. Is your local club or ramp safe?

We will keep you updated and in the meantime please share our give-a-little pages far and wide and visit https://www.ayba.org.nz/ for further updates. Seaside Access For Everyone
