Surely Skate needs a bigger vehicle to be able to transport boards and people for workshops.
Gisborne
Hey, as some of you my already know my name is Sophee and I run Surely Skate in Gisborne. Surely Skate is an all girls skateboarding group that has been skating together for almost two years. We skate at the skatepark every Sunday afternoon as more of a relaxed session where we can roam freely and practice, however we are always keen to help each other out if need be.
We have done workshops in the past which have been a huge success and we would love to be able to do more, starting with the schools. Last term we helped out with skate workshops with Te Hapara school and have also peaked the interest of other schools as well. I think the only thing stopping the schools from commiting is the purchase of boards. My idea is that if Surely Skate provides the boards then schools will be more likely to want us to come teach.
We have the funds for the boards already however we have no where to keep them. At the moment I am currently driving a Suzuki swift which has barely any room in it, that’s why we need an upgrade. Having a bigger vehicle such as a van would mean that we would have a safe space to hold at least 20 skateboards and gear and be able to transport it all easily.
Having a van would mean that I would be able to pick up and drop off more people on Sunday’s. It would mean we would easily be able to travel out of town for competitions and to support other girls skate projects. Having a van would help us to transport ramps so that we could do indoor sessions in school halls.
We’ve had heaps of support in the past and it is all very much appreciated! Every little bit helps, even if it’s only a couple dollars. Thank you!
The money will be spent on a van or at least a bigger car to transport skateboards and gear and well as people if they are needing a ride. Any excess money will be used to buy more safety gear so that we have enough to match the amount of boards.
