I am here to raise funds to go towards life saving TECABO surgery for my 3 year old German Shepherd.
Wellington
Meet Toa, my 3 year old German Shepherd and best buddy.
Toa has suffered with dietary and environmental allergies for the last 2 years and we have worked really hard to manage this with a specialized diet and numerous treatments. However, he has still suffered with flare ups in the form of chronic and persistant ear infections. As a result, both ear drums ruptured earlier this year which has left him in a significant amount of pain and heavily reliant on pain medication. The ruptured ear drums also mean he no longer responds to treatments at his local clinic and the only option for him now is TECABO surgery to both ears. This surgery comes at an estimate of approximately $8,000 which will include a necessary CT scan. I have pet insurance approved to pay for $1500 of this.
Toa has recently declined and his bad days have become more frequent than good. Our vet has advised that his quality of life is poor, and without this surgery I have to consider putting him to sleep to free him of his pain.
The surgery has an incredibly high success rate and would mean the source of his pain and infection is completely removed.
Toa has been with me since he was 8 weeks old. Our children love him, and he loves them. He is a wonderful guard dog, companion and friend. He is with me 24/7 and even comes to work with me everyday - I don't want to loose him without trying my hardest to save him.
The money will be spent on TECABO surgery. If we do not raise the money we need, I do not wish to take any funds and would like to return money as we won't require it without him here.
Home now 🤍 15 November 2025
Toa was sent home today and we've arrived back in Wellington.
The surgery went well, with no big complications. He is sporting a new hair cut, some interesting head gear and floppy ears (we've nicknamed him Dobby).
The team and Massey were great and reassured me that after the CT scan and the surgery, that they feel confident that this was defintley the best and only decision for him.
Recovery might be long now, as it is appears he is certainly deaf and that will take a lot for Toa to get used to. (Although there are glimmers when the kids talk to him in their little high pitched voices)
I'll continue to update, for now we are all so thankful to have him back home with us.
Thank you all for giving us this opportunity, and to our vet Geri and Massey for their care and expertise.
Thank you, Guppy 🫶
