Raising funds for lifesaving surgery.
Auckland
I need gender confirmation surgery. The current public health waitlist is about 40 years long, and I know for certain I would be dead before getting it. So I'm attempting to get it privately, at a clinic in Thailand. Current estimate of costs is about $25k and I'm saving and doing all I can, but I really need help.
10% of the way there! 27 May 2015
It's been a little over two weeks and already more than 50 people have donated just under two and a half thousand. Thank you all so much, and extra thanks to those who left messages of support - reading them has made me feel a lot better about all this.
Just after this started, Labour made the news with their policy proposal to make GRS and HRT free and accessible. Thanks to the visibility of this campaign, I spoke to a lot of media about it, in the hopes that I could really make sure people understood how important this surgery is to many of us (as well as hopefully gaining some more publicity for the campaign).
I spoke to GayNZ about it here (http://www.gaynz.com/articles/publish/2/article_16854.php) and was on 3 News here (http://www.3news.co.nz/nznews/sex-change-funding-divides-labour-2015051919). I also wrote about Andrew Little's response here (https://jenniferkateshields.wordpress.com/2015/05/19/where-andrew-quite-happy-with-my-gender-little-went-wrong/).
Again, thank you all so much for your support - at this rate it's going to take a lot less time than the 5 years I set, and significantly longer than the 40+ years wait list. Thank you!
