Morty (1yr) has fractured his back end and de-gloved his tail and needs surgery to have it amputated.
Wellington
Our gorgeous little man Morty who is just over 1 has injured himself somehow (vet thinks either a vehicle or he has been trapped somewhere and yanked himself free) and he has done a bit of damage to himself.
My partner (his dad) Ben Chapman-White noticed he didn't get up for food and when he patted him, he made a horrendous scream when Ben patted his back end. We rushed him to the vet where they gave him some pain relief, sedated him & performed an X-Ray and then found out that he has fractured his back end and de-gloved his tail.
He stayed at the vets overnight so they could monitor him & the good news is that he has peed by himself but we are still waiting to see if he can poo by himself and if he can he wont have to be put to sleep which is obviously the best outcome for us, as he is so young and we don't want to lose him.
Unfortunately he still has no movement or sensation in his tail and it will definitely need to be amputated, but he has done it one vertebrae away from serious nerve damage so he will still have a couple of cms to cover his bum. If his tail isn't amputated it will slowly die and start to rot and he will be up against infections so it must come off but will be costly.
We are prepared to pay for the surgery in whatever way we can but any donations to help us to cover this would be so greatly appreciated!
We love this little man and can't bear the thought of him not coming home to us.
We adopted Morty 6 months ago from The Kitten Inn when he was 7 months old. We went there with the intention of getting a young kitten as a companion for our other cat Smudge, but after seeing numerous people refuse to look at the older cats that needed homes, we felt sorry for them and decided to adopt him. I'm pleased we did because he has the biggest personality for such a small cat!
He has been loving life with us and his big sister smudge (who is missing him terribly) and we have been loving life with him and can't wait to be able to bring him home.
My partner Ben Chapman-White and I are his owners.
Surgery was a success ???? 3 January 2017
Hey everyone! Thanks again for all your help and support ?? The surgery went well, they had to take off a little more than they had first thought so he won't have much of a stump but we don't mind now we have our very own cat-lamb ?? He is very happy to be home and has been playing almost non stop (he has a lot of built up energy) and hasn't been biting at his stump so he won't need the dreaded cone!
We are so happy to have our little man home! And aside from having no tail now he is still the same loving energetic little Morty and we couldn't be happier xxx
