Hi I'm Sarah, an ECE teacher and musician from Wellington. I have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and urgently need breast reduction surgery.
Wellington
Hi I'm Sarah. I am a 23 year old ECE teacher, and musician from Wellington. Over the past 5 years I have been battling an arm/shoulder injury that has gradually gotten worse over time. This year I finally have gotten confirmation of a diagnosis, which is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. In a nutshell this means that any time I do anything that involves repetitive movement or lifting my arm goes cold, numb, and I am in constant pain, and take a significant amount of painkillers each day. This makes my job, and life in general quite difficult as it affects me when I drive, lift children, brush my hair, play an instrument, use a computer, among other things.
I love my job! Working with children is extremely rewarding, and I love writing/playing music, but it causes a lot of stress and pain currently. I want to be able to do these again without pain.
One of the treatment options is Breast Reduction Surgery, but unfortunately this is not covered by my health insurance provider. Later on I may need shoulder surgery also, which is covered, but without having a breast reduction first could cause further complications. A breast reduction will significantly improve my quality of life, and make possible future surgery on my shoulder if it is necessary.
My parents have offered to cover some of the cost of the surgery, but it is costly and I want to be able to contribute as well. I don't want them to have to bear the burden of this cost alone.
I have decided to make this page to ask for any donation towards this surgery so that I can live a more painfree life, and primarily help cover the cost.
For any donation I would be forever grateful.
As I said above I am a musician as well, and I am currently working on an EP of my own music. This is what I love, and it is a massive struggle currently, as I can only play for short periods of time.
As thanks, I would like to offer a free download/physical copy of my EP later this year when it is released, as you will have helped me once again be able to do what I love painfree.

Post Op 2 November 2016
Hey beautiful people.
I know this has been a long time coming! I just wanted to let you know how I'm doing after surgery. It has been 6 weeks since my op and I am recovering really well. On the outside everything is healing perfectly as it should, on the inside I'm still pretty sore and I'm discovering muscles I didn't know existed! I went back to work on Thursday and it has been a real challenge, I've had to cut back my hours for a few weeks to lessen the strain on my body, as I do have to look after myself.
It's too early to tell whether it has had a significant impact on my TOS, but I am hoping that with time and more treatment it will get a lot better. In other aspects of life this surgery has had a huge impact, I can wear clothes I couldn't before, and I'm more happy and confident.
The next step for me is to see a neurologist and we will assess from there whether I need more surgery.
Thank you again so much for supporting me, and making this life changing op a possibility.
Love, Sarah
