Kevin beat Hodgkin’s lymphoma with positivity and support—now he’s asking for help to save his home and recover from the financial toll.
Nelson
Hi, I'm Kevin Johnston – a long-time Nelson local and the owner of Ethos Electrical.
Last year, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma – a rare form of cancer that felt like something straight out of a Dr. House episode. What followed was a long, gruelling journey that began with a visit to After Hours and led into months of chemotherapy.
Thanks to an incredible medical team, supportive friends, and a determined positive mindset, I was declared cancer-free on 28th March 2024.
I've shared more of my story in my video, hoping it might inspire others going through a similar battle. I'm now volunteering with the Cancer Society to support people currently facing what I’ve just come through. Cancer is what it is – tough – but with the right help, it’s not unbeatable.
During treatment, I couldn’t work. Friends and a fellow electrician did their best to keep the business going, and the bank was understanding at first. But reality has now caught up.
Despite holding things together during chemo, I’m now at real risk of losing my home – with just $100,000 left on the mortgage. It’s the house I built my life in, and losing it would be a devastating blow.
A friend recently posted my story in the Nelson Community Facebook group, and the response was overwhelming. People suggested starting a Givealittle page – so here I am, humbled that my story might inspire even a little support.
Every donation helps me keep my home and rebuild after cancer. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
