PAPA has been given an opportunity to present at the Sisters Inside conference in Australia. We need your help to make it across the ditch!

Members of People Against Prisons Aotearoa (PAPA) have been accepted to present at the Sisters Inside conference in Brisbane this November! We have been accepted to present alongside some of the most celebrated voices in our field, including Debbie Kilroy, Tracey McIntosh, Julia Whaipooti, Gina Dent and Angela Davis.
Five members have been accepted to present a panel discussion at Sisters’ Inside.
Emilie Rākete, Max Whitehurst and Jessica Lim are graduate students at the University of Auckland, researching the political economy of prisons and community oriented solutions to harmful behaviour. Kendra Cox is a social work student and advocate for incarcerated people and their families. Ti Lamusse is an organiser, and researcher with People Against Prisons Aotearoa. They recently finished their Masters on inquiries into prison death, which won the Roger Oppenheim Memorial Prize in Sociological Research in 2018.
The Sisters Inside conference is a bi-annual event that draws together prison abolitionists from around the world to discuss and plan our shared vision for a world without prisons.
This is an incredible opportunity for us. However, we need your help to get there!
PAPA is a community organisation that raises all of its funds solely through donations from our members, public donations, and community fundraising within Aotearoa. As students and activists committed to community development, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to both present our work, and learn more about prisons at an international level.
All of PAPA’s money is spent on working towards prison abolition through community organising and supporting incarcerated people and their whānau, so these members really need your help to make it across the ditch!
We are fundraising to cover airfares, transfers and conference registration. This will cost a minimum of $1000 per person. This is an amazing opportunity, and all funds will be used to get us over there.
All excess funds will be donated to Sisters Inside and PAPA
