Creating a community wardrobe to ensure all tamariki have access to clothing

Wellington

The Takoha Project is expanding. (https://www.facebook.com/takohaproject)

For the past 9 months we have been focussed on creating care packages for tamariki in foster throughout New Zealand (this will remain they key focus for the central arm of Takoha!) but we have had so many people approach, keen to donate pre-loved, good quality clothing to tamariki in need.

We are now expanding to a community wardrobe!

The community wardrobe will initially be focussed in the eastern suburbs of Te Whanganui a Tara (Wellington). Clothing will be donated to 3 collection points in clothing bins, they will then be cleaned and sorted into care parcels for tamariki of certain ages (ag. 6 outfits for a 6 year old girl, 6 outfits for a 6 month old boy etc)

The focus is on enabling our community to support one another - we are working with a local community organisation to launch the project. To share the clothing parcels and collect more donations we will utilise local community events, and have community wardrobes at local community halls that will enable whānau to privately collect clothing parcels for their tamariki.

Our focus is on enhancing and protecting the mana of our community members.

All tamariki should have warm clothes they love to wear.

As a community we have the ability to pool our resources and aroha together and ensure all our little ones are clothed and warm!

We just need a little help getting off the ground!

We are fundraising for the purchasing of:

3 x 240 litre wheelie collection bins (3 x $149)

4 x magnetic car signs for Takoha collectors (4 x $29)

200 x reusable cotton chopping bags to parcel our clothes into (200 x $1.75)

250 x logo postcards (that will enable to label the size and gender of clothing within each parcel) ($64.99)

Total: $978

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
