Meeting the 'League of Nations'
19 November 2015Meet ‘The League of Nations’ that is De Paul House – these kids are all NZ residents and citizens and come from a range of origins – pictured here are ‘NZers’, Maori, Pacific Islanders including Tongan and Samoan, Afghani, Filipino, and Taiwanese. This reflects De Paul House policy of accepting families of ALL nationalities and religions.
Lesley showed me a family unit that a new family is moving into next week. She explained to me how they make a point of making the beds, leaving toys on them for the kids. A nice way to be welcomed in a new environment!
When asked what trend she's noticed in managing homeless families in recent years, she said that sadly it has become much more common to see ‘working families’ that can no longer sustain themselves and need assistance.
De Paul House is all about giving these homeless families structure and education from learning English to planning, budgeting, so that they eventually leave with the confidence and knowledge to make it independently, pride restored.
Help me to help De Paul House – the work that this group of people – mainly volunteers - does is amazing and needs us all to chip in. Only 19% of their funding comes from Government, so the funding from other sources including corporates like The Warehouse is absolutely essential!
No amount is too small! You can donate via my page
