24 year old Toihi Mahuika-Wright is currently fighting leukaemia
Christchurch, Canterbury
During the late hours of Friday 17th February 2023, Toihi was admitted into Christchurch Emergency Department. After numerous tests over the coming days, doctors had confirmed a diagnoses of Acute Leukaemia.
Surreal news that a 24 year old could ever imagine to receive, but if you know her - she is as stubborn as ever and is determined to fight this not only for herself, but for her 5 year old daughter - Kiara who has been our sunshine throughout this journey.
After completing her first round of intensive chemotherapy, she is unable to fight off infections where she is currently in ICU fighting. She is a remarkable woman who is progressing daily.
I am her sister.
The funds will go directly to Toihi for any unexpected bills that may arise and support her partner, daughter and immediate whanau as they begin to travel to Ōtautahi from far and wide.
She is out of ICU!! 16 March 2023
Kia ora koutou e te iwi! First off we would like just to say aue! Thank you all so much for your generous donations so far and we also appreciate all the kind messages that we wish we could thank/reply individually but we would be here all day!
Quick update: our girl is out of ICU after a scary few days and is now back in her ward recovering. We are still at the beginning of her journey that is going to be a long road ahead, but she’s got this! And we got this!
Again, we thank you all so much for the awhi.
Ngā mihi,
Mahuika Whānau
