Help us restore and protect one of Māngere's unique waterways and its surrounding community through community-led action and education.
Mangere, Auckland
It’s not true that people in a low socio-economic urban environment don’t care about the environment. The January 2023 floods had a devastating impact on the residents of Māngere but it also strengthened a closer connection between the people and the environment.
For over 20 years, our octogenarian kuia, Julia has been championing the restoration of a very special unique biodiversity hotspot. We are a group of skilled, committed, ethnically diverse volunteers who conduct community activations. We measure biodiversity and teach locals about the unique native Aotearoa taonga - advocating for both tangata and te taiao.
Our activations include but are not limited to, community monitoring days, planting, street and stream clean ups, water quality testing, partnership events with rangatahi, youth, local schools and other groups and organisations. We also provide opportunities for undergrad students to gain experience working in the field of science / environmental science, engineering and community work.
Your donation, however small will enable us to continue our mahi especially in the areas of advocacy and education. In October 2025 we became a Charitable Trust and our charity registration is still pending. Our social media have regular updates with our activities and stories.
PLEASE HELP us to reach our ambitious target of $6,000 in 6 months.
Te Ara-rata Stream Team (TST) is a small group passionate about restoring and caring for Te Ara-rata Stream in Māngere, delivering education and advocacy to build a stronger connection between people and the environment.
Any donations received will go towards funding our community activations such as projects, events, advocacy work and stream monitoring.
