On feb 3rd 2020 this sporty energetic very healthy young man was rushed to Palmerston North hospital via ambulance at 7am for a continuous bleeding nose that all up over night he lost just over 1500mls of blood. Within an hour of him being at Palmerston North hospital he had started having blood transfusions, he had his nose quaterized twice and then by 10am was diagnosed with HIGH RISK ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKAEMIA. He was then airlifted to starship Tuesday 4th feb 2020 where he spent the next few months doing chemotherapy. He is always in and out of hospitals starship and Palmerston North since feb!!! The reason I’m starting a page for him is because he is always getting the worst of side effects. He’s had numerous allergic reactions to blood product transfusions such as reactions to plasma he gets semi allergic reaction to red blood and he also went into anaphylactic shock while trying to infuse platelets which any chemo patient knows how important it is to get these transfusions. It’s just been hurdle after hurdle for my sisters family as when she’s in hospital with RA dad Tahi can’t work normal hours as he has to organise the other three children still at home. My nephew has had complication after complication that slows down the progress of his treatment. He’s had high cholesterol problems he’s had to have surgery where a mass grew on his leg from the 3 Adrenaline injections that saved his life when he went into anaphylactic shock with the platelets. The new hurdle atm is that he is being treated for Steroid induced Hyperglycaemia which is being treated like type 1 diabetes. The family have been told to be prepared that his body may self correct this but seeings he’s on these steroids for the next 2 years to be prepared that this may last as long as he’s on these steroids. So please whanau and friends anything will be very much appreciated to help take some stress off of the family. There was fundraising done at the very beginning but as we all know bills come in every week and without mum being home for the other kids dads having to work less hours and this family basically live two seperate lives HOME lives and HOSPITAL lives. So I’m pleading please help this beautiful whanau out.
