Te Whānau Arohanui is a charitable trust established in 1991 by our pou & foster parents to many, Roka Hurihia and Kerry Cameron in Waitati, Ōtepoti. Te Whānau Arohanui was born out of their vision to create a nurturing environment for tamariki, taiohi & whānau in need of aroha, manaaki & tautoko, grounded in Te Ao Māori & aroha.
The name "Te Whānau Arohanui" reflects the deep love and care that the trust embodies, with "arohanui" meaning "big love" in Māori. The trust is grounded in tīkanga Māori, empowered by whakapapa & tāonga tuku iho, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage and community.
Te Whānau Arohanui operates as a Te whare wānanga (house of learning), providing a safe haven where tamariki (children) and whānau (families) can come together, be nurtured, and reach their full potential.
The trust's philosophy centers on:
- *Whānau-Centric Care*: Prioritizing the needs of whānau.
- *Cultural Empowerment*: Honoring and acknowledging dual heritage.
- *Holistic Development*: Supporting individuals' mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
- *Unity in Community*: Inspiring active involvement in community initiatives.
- *Kaitiakitanga*: Promoting environmental stewardship for future generations.
- *Lifelong Learning*: Nurturing knowledge, skills, and resilience across generations².
Te Whānau Arohanui has been contributing to the well-being of the Māori community for over 31 years, continuing to pave the way for future generations through aroha and treasured traditions.
Funds will be passed to Te Whānau Arohanui to continue their work to provide a loving and caring environment for those who wish to follow the dual cultural heritage of Aotearoa.
