Support a new generation of Traditional Navigators

$120 donated
Given by 2 generous donors in 2 years

Support our waka hourua, Ngahiraka-Mai-Tawhiti 🌊

Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty

Te Kura Waka Voyaging Society was established in 2015 by PWO Navigator Jack Thatcher, kaitiaki of Ngahiraka-Mai-Tawhiti based in Tauranga Moana, as a way to pass his knowledge on to new generation of traditional navigators.

2020 was seen as the year that we would graduate these new navigators, however COVID-19 put a two year hiatus on this. Now that we are back, we have a new goal looking towards a graduation voyage for this new generation. There are lots of costs that go towards an open ocean voyage, including waka maintenance, navigation wānanga, provisions, travel and more.

100% of donations will go towards our waka hourua Ngahiraka-Mai-Tawhiti and the Navigators Graduation Voyage which will take place in September 2025. Any tautoko towards our kaupapa will be hugely appreciated!
