The Colville Project Trust

We are The Colville Project - and we are on a mission to build a new future for our rural northern Coromandel Peninsula communities. Life in rural New Zealand is facing serious challenges with the changing demographic of this and many other rural areas, to an older base, and the centralisation of essential services. But we have a transformative plan to stop this in its tracks by building a community centre focusing on health and wellbeing, social services and housing, in sympathy with the environment and with the needs of the people of our area. We have to start with purchasing land, and this is the target of our fundraising at this stage.

When we have that, we will build...

~ A Well-being and Education Centre housing a range of medical, social, and educational services. These will available locally for both our remote rural communities and the 10,000+ New Zealanders and overseas visitors who come to stay in our beautiful holiday and camping ground facilities each summer.

~ Accommodation which will house visiting professionals and medical students, giving them a compelling and unique taste of rural practice.And perhaps igniting a desire in medical trainees to choose rural practice for themselves.

~ Housing options to help keep our families together:

* For our elderly so they can stay in their own community.

* For those needing assisted living support and/or palliative care, so they can stay in their

community and be near their loved ones.

* For our young families so they can live, work and raise their children in this safe, beautiful part

of New Zealand.

~ Recreational facilities and skills training for our young people, to enable them to thrive in their home communities.

This is a big vision, but one that is needed to make our communities sustainable into the future. People here will benefit by being able to take advantage of all that is being offered. But benefit goes beyond our community boundaries. We hope to act as a template for other challenged communities all over New Zealand, showing the way to a thriving, sustainable future.
