Riding the Great Divide - an endurance cycle ride in support of two lifesaving eating disorder organisations.

An endurance cycle ride to raise money and awareness for two incredible not for profit eating disorder support organisations.

Canterbury

As you know life is not always easy and we all go through our tough times. Over the last 7 years our family has been living with anorexia nervosa and have been supported by two incredible eating disorder organisations. I thought I would try and raise a few dollars as to help them continue their fantastic work. They have helped many families through their darkest days on their eating disorder journeys. They work in what is undoubtedly one of the toughest and most difficult areas of mental health. Frankly, I don't know how they do it, but they do and our family and many others are eternally grateful to them!

From August through to the end of September (and maybe a bit of October), I will try to complete the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route - a 4,400km unsupported off road bicycle traverse of the Rocky Mountains from Banff, Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico.

Donations will be shared between two not for profit organisations - Recovered Living NZ and Eating Disorders Carer Support, to support their crucial work in helping people with eating disorders. Both organisations specialise in assisting families impacted by eating disorders a difficult and costly challenge. Recovered Living (https://recoveredlivingnz.com) is a team of highly trained eating disorder professionals providing 24/7 residential eating disorder recovery support, whilst EDCS, (https://www.edcs.co.nz) provides lived experience peer support, educational materials, community awareness and advocacy at all levels.

Made it!  23 October 2025

Well I made it to the end! 4400km and approx 49km of climbing. An incredible experience of a lifetime. Many highlights most of all the people met along the way, the vast empty landscapes and small town rural America .

Your generosity has been incredible - the funds will be so greatly received and help fight the long and difficult battle with eating disorders in New Zealand. I will be putting together a YouTube video of my drone and GoPro footage and will post the link once complete. Thanks so much once again. Iain
